Our customer, Balta home, a division of Balta group, is a Belgian manufacturer of machine-woven carpets and is known worldwide for its creativity, knowledge, innovation, quality, service and wide product range.
At the Balta Tielt plant, we did a remanufacturing of the spinners. These machines, in which the yarn for the carpets is spun on bobbins, were in perfect mechanical condition but the controls were outdated and spare parts were becoming increasingly difficult to find. We therefore rebuilt the old controls with new PLCs, new motor controls and visualisation.
From both a financial and sustainable point of view, it was interesting for the customer to opt for remanufacturing rather than buying a completely new production line.
The main advantages are::
- Cost-effective long-term protection of the initial investment in the spinners with state-of-the-art controls
- The new controls make integration with today’s IT-OT platforms easier
- Change-over time is shorter than setting up a new machine
- Reduced downtime as the machine runs more stably, this also increases machine reliability
- Sustainability: positive impact on the circular economy (reuse)
- Old parts can still be used as spare parts for other machines
At Actemium, we were responsible for the electrical engineering: in consultation with the customer, it was decided exactly what would be replaced and to reuse the existing panel. In addition, a new electrical diagram was drawn up and we did the panel building.
Advantages for the customer
- Completely new automation platform
- Open software
- User-friendliness for operators and maintenance staff
- Connection to higher-level systems for data capture and enhanced analytics
- Improved machine availability and productivity
- Lower risk of equipment failure and lower maintenance costs
