Alcon manufactures custom packs, being surgical kits for eye surgeons. Actemium has delivered two automation projects for the end-of-line process, where the custom packs are boxed up by operators, a collaborative robot in the clean room and a boxing installation.
For the boxing installation we came up with a fully automatic palletisation design, with ergonomics, interaction with the operator and efficient use of space being key aspects.
Each of the six boxing stations is provided with a vertical shuttle to transport all boxes up to the accumulation belts once automatic QR code scanning is complete.
The boxes are then weighed by an inline check weighing system, palletised by a robot and automatically labelled and packaged.
Actemium took the role of turnkey supplier and machine manufacturer in the project.
