In 2020, AEB built a new biomass power plant in Amsterdam to generate green energy. This power plant extracts energy from the combustion of wood that can no longer be recycled. Together with our partner Deman, we built two overhead cranes to transport the wood chips from the warehouse to the incinerator. This redundant system with two overhead cranes guarantees that the incinerator can be fed continuously. Even if one of them were to break down, the other overhead crane would still have the capacity to deliver sufficient wood chips.
The overhead cranes and grippers were completely built mechanically by our partner Deman. At Actemium we were responsible for:
- Electrical engineering and panel construction
- Automation: PLC software, SCADA, WCS and network software
- Perfect integration and communication between all systems
- Complete safety concept of the hall and the cranes with an RI&E analysis
- Commissioning
One of the big advantages is that the system is fully automatic, so no one needs to be present in the hall. This also guarantees the safety of the operators.
